There are different head types and coating types in the screws to facilitate the driving through with different tools. Most marine stainless steel wood screws are self-driving. They do not require threaded bolt holes for driving in. They make their own threaded pilot holes as they are driven in.
The m5 stainless steel wood screws are made from 304 grade of 410 grade of steels as well. If the corrosion resistance is not the primary concern, the screws can be made of 304 and if the wear resistance is the primary concern the 410 grade of m8 stainless steel wood screws can be used.
