The hexagonal head provides better torque strength when driven with tools. Stainless Steel Self Tapping Screws Pan Head is one type of the head designs which is used for specific installation purposes. The specialty in self tapping screws is that they do not need bolt holes. They can be placed on a plain surface and drill their own pilot holes as the stainless steel self tapping sheet metal screws are driven in. The diameter of the screws vary from 3.9mm to 6.3mm and the length of the screws can vary from 12mm to 50mm. The stainless steel self tapping deck screws can also come in different coating and finishes.

The silver slide coating is the most common for these screws. There are also different neck and head types such as the stainless steel self tapping countersunk screws which fully sink into the surface while driven in.
